Day 2 of CES 2001
January 2001

Day 2

Tom Holman, of TMH corporation, moderating a CES supersession on the future of multi-channel audio.

During the session, perspectives were given by Herbie Hancock, jazz pioneer.

Herbie Hancock played 2 of his recorded pieces of music, one piece was in 2 channel stereo and compared to 10.2 channel surround sound. More creative avenues ... and a more realistic sound. His demonstration was very convincing.

Industry perspectives were also given by Bjorn Dybdahl, retailer of Bjorns audio video in San Antonio, Texas.
Denon's new DVD2800 DVD player with progressive scan output. It was demonstrated with a Runco projector and brought DVD video to new heights of perfection.
Denon demonstrated with partner Digital Harmony an AV system connected by ieee1394 (aka firewire). Shown are the Denon AVR 5800 AV receiver in the upper left, Denon DVD player in the upper right and Denon DCM 500 100 disc CD changer in the lower right. It actually works!
Nakamichi's new soundspace 2 portable music console.
Nakamichi's soundspace 2 includes a base unit with AM/FM and MP 3 player with clock and alarm functions.
The soundspace 2 MP 3 player can be detached and can be used independently with headphones on the go. It has a rechargeable NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery and uses the compact flash memory (not included) standard for the MP 3 player. It is $500 and will be available in January 2001.
